The distance between the needle and the catheter tip is called the heel distance. The larger the heel distance, the more penetrative force required for needle insertion.

MedSource has optimized the heel distance to help reduce the penetrative force required during IV cannulation. Reduction in this force can potentially mean less insertion-site trauma, preserved vessel health, and increased patient comfort.
